Half a century of HUD's net budget authority.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development's budget authority, FY1976– FY2031, from OMB's Historical Tables. This is NET budget authority — i.e. after the large FHA / Ginnie Mae offsetting receipts — so the line is HUD's net department total, not its gross program funding (which is far larger and kept strictly separate on the rest of this monitor). The series climbs with the Section 8 buildout and the Recovery Act, and the recent peak / FY2027 step-down reflect both program changes and swings in the FHA / Ginnie offsets.

This line is HUD's NET budget authority, so it already reflects the FHA / Ginnie Mae offsets — when projected FHA receipts rise, the net falls even if program funding holds. That is exactly why a department-level monitor must keep this net figure separate from the gross program budget: the gross is the measure of what HUD has to fund rental assistance and community development; the net is a scorekeeping number that the offsets can swing. This series is shown in nominal dollars: OMB's Historical Table 5.2 does not publish a constant-dollar basis, and we do not synthesize one.
